The purpose of this organization shall be to: maintain an association that advocates for the freedom to read; support the development of library resources and services; develop and support a community of readers and lifelong learners; and collaborate with other organizations to enrich our community and achieve these purposes.
Formed in 1968, the "Friends" is organized for charitable, educational, and literary purposes including making distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, as amended, or corresponding provisions of any future Federal tax legislation. The Friends are also incorporated as a nonprofit in the state of North Carolina and have a current NC Charitable License Exemption.
